dc.descriptionThis article explores the phenomenon of national states from a historical and materialist perspective in the work State, Power and Socialism (SPS) of Nicos Poulantzas in order to identify analytical tools which contribute to understand contemporary problems of the state — particularly in the context of globalization. In order to achieve this, it is exposed the specific nature of the Capitalist Type of State (CTS) and the role that this form of state played in shaping the "symbolic fence" which is known as the nation. In other words, it is emphasized the historical nature of both processes (nation and state formation) while the inherent limitations of the Weberian approaches which seek to explain the capitalist state from a "mystified" perspective. Through a dialogue with recent studies from social sciences, emphasis is made on actuality of the last phase of Poulantzas’s work to go beyond trends announcing the dissolution of the national state in the era of global capitalism, to rather comprehend both its contemporary transformations and the role - still essential - that it plays in the reproduction of transnational capital.
dc.descriptionEl presente artículo explora el fenómeno de los Estados nacionales desde una perspectiva histórica y materialista en la obra Estado, poder y socialismo de Nicos Poulantzas con el fin identificar herramientas que permitan comprender problemas contemporáneos del Estado, especialmente en el contexto que ofrece la globalización. Para ello se señala el carácter específico del tipo de Estado capitalista así como el papel que dicha forma de Estado desempeñó en la conformación del “cerco simbólico” que es la nación. Esto es, se insiste en el carácter histórico de ambos procesos al tiempo que se señalan las limitaciones inherentes a los enfoques weberianos que procuran dar cuenta del Estado capitalista desde una perspectiva "mistificada". A partir del diálogo con trabajos recientes de las ciencias sociales, se hace énfasis en la actualidad de la última fase del trabajo de Poulantzas para ir más allá de las tendencias que anuncian la disolución del Estado nacional en la era del capitalismo global y comprender, en cambio, tanto sus transformaciones contemporáneas como el papel - todavía esencial - que desempeña en la reproducción transnacional del capital.
