dc.descriptionThe issue that this study addresses is the analysis and evaluation of a representative sample of English teaching/learning materials. The purpose of the study is to examine how these materials promote the development of the ICC, and to explore how the concept of culture is integrated to the other components of the development communicative competence models. The study was conducted in Cartagena de Indias, and the materials scrutinized were taken from a random sample of in use materials in public schools’ of the city. To gather data, interviews were applied with teachers from the chosen schools of the sample; and a checklist was also used as data collection method. The interviews aim to identify teachers’ expectations toward in-use English teaching materials based on Intercultural Communicative Competence. The interview has 15 questions designed to find general information about their qualifications, experience, the courses they teach, the institution as well as their perceptions about the materials. Checklists were used as a mean to access the information provided for the materials. Through checklists, the absence or the presence of certain criteria were marked, and at the same time allowed to write brief comments on the subject analyzed. The main contribution of this study consists in the identification of some features or criteria for developing ICC, the recognition of some methodologies that could be inserted in material development and the presentation of some indicators which could be used in the analysis of ICC material development for English language teaching and learning.es_ES
