%X Electric power is one of the most important factors in the industrial sector. In Colombia, electric power is mainly produced by the use of hydroelectric resources and the hydrocarbons exploitation. According to UPME, natural gas is the third most used energy source in the world. However, given the decrease in the gas reserve in Colombia, it is necessary to visualize other energy sources that could be used like a backup fuel in the power generation plants. For this reason, the use of LPG was considered. This project is focused on the conceptual and basic design of an electric power generation plant located in Santa Rosa, Bolívar, able to produce 42 MW, with equipment that allows the combustion of natural gas and LPG to produce this amount of energy. Alternatives were proposed based on the different technologies able of meeting the energy requirements with natural gas and LPG, taking into account the place water limitation. Alternatives were evaluated using the performance, costs, reliability associated with the use of LPG, and the emissions generated in the process like evaluation criteria. Wartsila 20V34SG engine was chosen. Based on this alternative, the basic design of the gas and LPG supply system, the engine cooling system, and the exhaust system were done. According to NFPA 58 and ASME Boiler and pressure vessel norms, the detailed design of the LPG storage tank was carried out. When all the design phases were completed, the process diagram of each power plant's subsystems, the calculation memory, the manufacturing and detailed description drawings of the LPG tank were obtained. Achieving to comply, in this way, with the different restrictions and client needs with electric power plants regulations rules.
