The design was carried out based on ASHRAE standards 170 and 52.2, which dictate the guidelines to be followed in the design process for medical facilities. Camino Nuevo Barranquilla Hospital is under construction and is part of the 2020-2023 Development Plan. The areas that were designed in this building are: emergency room, observation rooms, operating rooms, preparation room, recovery room, isolation rooms and Intensive Care Units (ICU). The design methodology used in this project includes the basic design stages, in which the thermal load of the spaces to be conditioned was calculated; the conceptual design stage, where the different design alternatives that could solve the design problem were proposed. Thus, in the conceptual design stage, the different types of air conditioning systems were analyzed and compared, and an air-condensed chiller system was selected as the winning alternative. Then, in the detailed design stage, the air and chilled water distribution systems were sized. In addition, pumps, accessories, chiller units, handlers and filter banks were selected. In addition to the above, a risk analysis was performed for the assembly of equipment and distribution systems.
