dc.description | Teaching English to Health Sciences students has always been a challenge for teachers due to the lack of materials intended to develop not only language competences, but also job-related competences. Global simulation has been used in EFL contexts to provide opportunities for students to interact, use the language in an environment close to reality, and therefore, foster meaningful learning and the development of language and job-related competences. This descriptive research project involved the evaluation of the effectiveness of the use of Global Simulation on English for Health Science students at Universidad del Norte. The objective of this research was to analyze the impact of the use of the strategy in the development of job related competences and communicative competences in an English for Health Sciences group. Reaching this objective was intended to be done through the exposure to relevant materials that belong to a simulated job environment highly connected to the students’ context. Data collection instruments include interviews, focus groups and artifact analysis. The results were analyzed and there was a tendency for students to develop communicative competences such as speaking fluency and job-related competences like creating an educational intervention for a community. Finally, it was concluded that the use of Global Simulation had a strong impact on the development of the course and it could be used to immerse students in a relevant job-related environment to develop communicative competences and job-related ones. | es_ES |
