| dc.description | In this paper is carried an analysis of the process of redefinition and restructuring of Caribbean economies in the process called globalization and its impact on the economic development of the region. For this is given a description of the evolution of the center-periphery relation, following among others, the Prebisch-Singer and Wallerstein thesis. Subsequently is explained how globalization changes the paradigm of the global economy towards new concepts such as value chains. Finally is described how the process of contemporary globalization has restructured Caribbean economies, setting it as international service centers, focusing on tourism, entertainment and finance, and thus preserving the asymmetries that characterize a center-periphery economic relation. | en-US |
| dc.description | En el presente artículo se realiza un análisis del proceso de redefinición y reestructuración de las economías del Caribe dentro del proceso denominado globalización y su impacto para el desarrollo económico de la región. Para esto se describe la evolución de la relación centro-periferia siguiendo las tesis de Prebisch-Singer, Wallerstein, entre otros. Subsecuentemente se explica como la globalización cambia el paradigma de la economía mundial hacia nuevos conceptos como las cadenas de valor. Finalmente se describe como el proceso de globalización contemporánea ha reestructurado las economías del Caribe y las ha redefinido configurándolas como centros de servicios internacionales, centrados en el turismo, el entretenimiento y las finanzas, preservando las asimetrías que caracterizan una relación económica centro-periferia. | es-ES |
