At the southwest, in the city of Barranquilla, Atlantico (Colombia) there’s a neighborhood called Nueva Colombia, which has a population of roughly 35000 people and 80% of them are African-descent. There’s a problem that affects the development of this neighborhood due to the ill-state, or lack of hydraulic infrastructure, this causes high velocities in the flow of existing channels every time rainfall is present. Furthermore, people in this community usually throw garbage at these channels worsening the state of them. The overlapping of these factors allow floodings throughout the vicinity to happen, which call for hydraulic interventions all over the place. The purpose of this study is to analyze the morphometric characteristics of the basin, while plotting the corresponding maps based on historical data. In addition, is to realize a hydrological and runoff analysis of the subbasins that make up the area that this study focuses on summing it up into a single data that resembles reality closely. All of these analysis and information will allow for the proposals of different hydraulic alternatives efficient enough to mitigate the issues for the future years to come, designed with a fifty-year period as stated by norm. All of this is achieved with the use of programs of higher precision and detail, such as: CIVIL3D, HEC RAS, HEC HMS, HYDRAULIC TOOLBOX, and QGIS. Three different designs will be offered and one of them will be chosen by taking into account the possible impacts on the environment, as well as the community, the economy, and the benefits that each one of them bring.
