Análisis de datos (comportamiento y tendencias) del uso de la plataforma LMS Brightspace. Caso de uso: Departamento de Ingeniería de Sistemas de la División de Ingenierías en la Universidad del Norte

Abstract

Los sistemas de gestión de aprendizaje o learning management system (LMS por sus iniciales en inglés), se han convertido en un actor principal en las instituciones educativas para promover y apoyar el aprendizaje. Tradicionalmente, los LMS son usados con la intención de administrar, reportar y entregar contenido a los estudiantes (Guo et al, 2022). Debido a esto, los LMS están constantemente generando datos, lo que permite el uso de herramientas estadísticas para realizar análisis con las que se pueden evaluar variables con respecto a los estudiantes y profesores. El presente trabajo tiene como propósito usar la información recopilada en la plataforma LMS Brightspace de la Universidad del Norte a lo largo de los años, para aplicar técnicas de análisis exploratorio y estadísticos, con el fin de realizar una comparativa del Departamento de Ingeniería de Sistemas y Computación de la División de Ingenierías y observar su tendencia con respecto al panorama general de la Universidad del Norte.

Learning management systems (LMS) have become a major tool in educational institutions to promote and support learning. Traditionally, LMS are used with the intention of managing, reporting and delivering content to students (Guo et al, 2022). Due to this, LMS are constantly generating data, which allows the use of statistical tools to perform analyzes with which variables can be evaluated with respect to students and teachers. The purpose of this work is to use the information collected in the LMS Brightspace platform of the Universidad del Norte over the years, to apply exploratory and statistical analysis techniques, in order to make a comparison of the Department of Systems Engineering and Computing of the Engineering Division and observe its trend with respect to the general panorama of the Universidad del Norte. The use of this type of descriptive statistics techniques is proposed, such as exploratory analysis to make use of the data collected over the last two academic semesters, see trends and make comparisons of the general panorama of the university and the Department of Computer and systems engineering.
